Leadership Camp 12.12-15.25

From December 12 to 15, AYC held a Leadership Camp at The Key First Nation in Saskatchewan. As the AYC ministry continues to expand and many youth who have been nurtured over the years are growing into maturity, we strongly sensed the need to present deeper challenges and a clear next step for these young leaders.

Many of the youth who participated in this camp are no longer at the stage of simply being “youth.” Rather, they are at a critical point where they must decide whether to continue into leadership training within AYC or to step into a new season beyond the ministry. (AYC youth age range: 14–18)

Through AYC, these youth have already developed an understanding of the gospel and a personal relationship with God. However, as they return to their home communities, many face strong temptations, hardships, and pressures that challenge their faith.

What God did

Typically, AYC conferences are structured around two main worship services, morning and evening, with time between services focused on fellowship and relationship-building between volunteers and youth. In contrast, this Leadership Camp introduced a different structure. Three seminars were intentionally placed between the two worship services, with a primary focus on building leadership character and spiritual maturity through each session.

One of the core messages woven throughout the workshops was perseverance. Contrary to expectations, the youth participants not only handled this intensive and unfamiliar schedule well, but they also remained attentive and fully engaged throughout every session.

This Leadership Camp became a moment of deep challenge for many young leaders. As a tangible response, several youth voluntarily committed to a 21-day relay fast at the beginning of the new year. In addition, eight youth independently began fundraising in order to participate as volunteers in the upcoming Yellowknife mission trip scheduled for February.

These responses demonstrate a clear fruit beyond simple program participation. They reveal that these youth are beginning to move their faith from personal confession into a life of commitment, responsibility, and action.

Through this camp, AYC was once again able to clearly see that God is raising up the next generation not merely as participants, but as responsible and committed leaders.

Looking Back on the Year, and Moving Toward the Next Step

Throughout the year 2025, AYC followed the paths God opened and went wherever Indigenous youth were. We chose obedience over planning, relationship over results, and walking together over events, faithfully responding to God’s calling by showing up wherever He led us.

In 2025,

With the support of over 120 volunteers, we hosted two AYC Conferences  (March: Spring AYC, August: Summer AYC). In addition, including both first-time visits and multiple revisits, We carried out a total of 17 Mini AYC & Village Visit ministries.

These ministries took place in the following regions:

• Gitsegukla (Northwest British Columbia)

• The Key First Nation (Saskatchewan)

• Behchoko (Northwest Territories)

• Lillooet (BC Interior)

• Gingolx (Nisga’a Nation)

• Port Hardy (Vancouver Island)

• Ahousaht (Vancouver Island)

• Port Alberni (Vancouver Island)

We also traveled with Indigenous youth on a Vision Trip to South Korea and participated in the Nations for First Nations Conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where Indigenous leaders from across the country gathered. Through these opportunities to share and introduce our ministry, we were able to clearly see that the Lord is expanding this work far beyond a single region and into a much wider movement.

Fruits of the Ministry

Throughout this journey, God allowed us to witness clear and meaningful fruit. A total of 26 youth were baptized, and approximately 20 youth personally encountered Jesus and responded to a calling toward ministry. In Saskatchewan, in particular, an Indigenous Bible school was launched under the leadership of Pastor Jamie Desjarlais, and around 10 Indigenous students are currently being trained in Scripture and ministry. Additionally, this past September, one Indigenous youth enrolled at PLBC (Bible College), showing us that the fruit of this ministry is continuing into places of education and leadership for the next generation.

Yet beyond all numbers and structural outcomes, the moment that stayed with us most deeply was a change that began in the life of one person.

“I had never been to church before.”

The youth stood near the door before the service began so she could leave at any time. It was a worship service in Port Hardy, where the AYC team had returned. She said she came for the first time because a friend invited her.

“I think I came to the wrong place,” she said before the service started while talking on the phone with her friend. But worship began, followed by a short message and prayer, and when it was time to pray, she lowered her head.

“For the first time… I felt like God might actually be real.”

That night, she accepted Jesus. Immediately afterward, she made another phone call and invited the same friend she had been speaking to earlier. That friend’s heart was also opened during the service, and in that same place, they accepted Jesus as well.

Through this moment, we were reminded once again that the transformation of one person expands through relationships. And all of this began because someone chose to come back again.

In all of this ministry, we give all glory to the Lord.

Moving Forward

AYC does not stop here. In the coming year, we plan to expand our ministry further into interior regions, Yellowknife, and Manitoba, continuing to move toward places where many Indigenous youth have yet to know the Lord and toward places where God’s heart is calling us. We sincerely thank everyone who joined us throughout 2025 through your interest, prayers, partnership, and financial support in God’s vision for Indigenous youth.

We look forward to continuing this journey together next year, expecting to witness even more of how the Lord is at work. AYC will continue to walk forward with the same heart and in the same posture, so that the next generation may hear the gospel, experience worship, and find their way back into community.

리더십 캠프 (12.12–15, 2025)

12월 12일부터 15일까지, 사스카추완 The Key First Nation에서 리더십 캠프가 진행되었습니다. AYC 사역이 확장되고, 여러 해 동안 양육받아 온 청소년들이 성장함에 따라, 이들에게 더 깊은 도전과 다음 단계를 제시할 필요성을 강하게 느끼게 되었습니다.

이번 캠프에 참여한 많은 청소년들은 더 이상 단순한 ‘유스’의 단계에 머물러 있지 않고, 이제는 AYC 안에서 리더십 훈련 과정을 이어갈 것인지, 혹은 사역을 마무리하고 다음 길로 나아갈 것인지를 결정해야 하는 중요한 시점에 서 있는 이들이었습니다. (AYC 유스 연령대: 14–18세)

이들은 이미 AYC를 통해 복음에 대한 이해와 하나님과의 개인적인 관계를 경험해 왔지만, 각자의 공동체로 돌아가면서 유혹과 어려움, 그리고 신앙에 대한 도전과 압박 속에 놓여 있는 상황이었습니다.

하나님께서 행하신 일

기존 AYC 컨퍼런스는 주로 아침과 저녁 두 차례의 예배를 중심으로 진행되고, 예배 사이 시간은 봉사자들과 청소년들이 교제하며 관계를 쌓는 데 초점을 두어 왔습니다. 그러나 이번 리더십 캠프에서는 그와 달리, 두 예배 사이에 세 차례의 세미나를 배치하여, 각 세미나를 통해 리더십의 성품과 태도를 세우는 데 집중했습니다.

워크숍 전반을 관통한 핵심 메시지 중 하나는 ‘인내(perseverance)’였습니다. 예상과 달리, 청소년 참가자들은 이처럼 밀도 높은 일정에도 불구하고 집중력을 잃지 않고 모든 세션에 성실히 참여했으며, 끝까지 집중하는 모습을 보여주었습니다.

이번 리더십 캠프를 통해 많은 청소년 리더들이 깊이 도전받는 시간이 되었습니다. 그 열매로, 새해를 맞이하며 21일 릴레이 금식을 자발적으로 시작한 청년들이 세워졌고, 오는 2월에 예정된 옐로나이프 선교에 봉사자로 참여하기 위해 스스로 펀드레이징을 시작한 청년들 또한 8명이나 일어났습니다.

이러한 반응은 단순한 프로그램 참여를 넘어, 청소년들이 신앙을 개인적인 고백의 수준에서 삶의 헌신과 책임으로 옮기기 시작했음을 보여주는 분명한 열매입니다.

이번 캠프를 통해 AYC는, 하나님께서 다음 세대를 단순한 참여자가 아닌 책임 있는 리더로 세워가고 계심을 분명히 확인할 수 있었습니다.

한 해를 돌아보며, 그리고 다음 걸음을 향해

2025년 한 해 동안 AYC는 하나님께서 열어주신 길을 따라 원주민 청소년들이 있는 곳으로 발걸음을 옮겼습니다. 우리는 계획보다 순종을, 결과보다 관계를, 이벤트보다 동행을 선택하며, 하나님께서 이끄시는 자리마다 찾아가 부르심에 신실하게 응답했습니다.

2025년에는 120여 명의 봉사자들의 헌신 가운데 두 차례의 AYC 집회를 진행했습니다

(3월: Spring AYC conference, 8월: Summer AYC conference).

또한 첫 방문과 여러 차례의 재방문을 포함하여 총 17번의 Mini AYC & Village Visit 사역을 감당했습니다.

이 사역들은 다음 지역에서 이루어졌습니다.

• Gitsegukla (BC 북서부)

• The Key First Nation (사스카추완)

• Behchoko (노스웨스트 준주

• Lillooet (BC 내륙)

• Gingolx (Nisga’a Nation)

• Port Hardy (밴쿠버 아일랜

• Ahousaht (밴쿠버 아일랜드)

• Port Alberni (밴쿠버 아일랜드)

또한 원주민 청소년들과 함께 한국으로의 비전 트립을 다녀왔으며, 사스카추완 The Key First Nation에서 첫 리더십 캠프와, 캐나다 전역의 원주민 사역자들이 모인 Nations for First Nations 컨퍼런스(매니토바 위니펙)에도 참여했습니다. 이 자리에서 사역을 나누고 알리며, 주님께서 이 사역을 한 지역에 국한하지 않고 더 넓은 흐름으로 확장하고 계심을 분명히 볼 수 있었습니다.

사역의 열매

이 여정 가운데 하나님께서는 분명하고 의미 있는 열매를 허락해 주셨습니다. 총 26명의 청소년이 세례를 받았고, 약 20명의 청소년이 예수님을 인격적으로 만나 사역자로의 부르심에 응답했습니다. 특히 사스카추완 지역에서는 Jamie Desjarlais 목사의 리더십 아래 원주민 신학교가 시작되었고, 현재 약 10명의 원주민 신학생들이 말씀과 사역 훈련을 받으며 준비하고 있습니다.

또한 지난 9월에는 원주민 청소년이 PLBC에 입학하며, 이 사역의 열매가 다음 세대를 위한 교육과 리더십의 자리로까지 이어지고 있음을 확인하게 되었습니다. 그러나 이 모든 수치와 구조적인 성과를 넘어, 우리의 마음에 가장 깊이 남은 것은 한 사람의 삶에서 시작된 변화였습니다.

“저는 교회에 한 번도 가본 적이 없었어요.”

예배가 시작되기 전, 그 청소년은 언제든 나갈 수 있도록 문 근처에 서 있었습니다. 그날은 AYC 팀이 다시 찾은 Port Hardy에서의 예배였고, 친구의 초대로 처음 이 자리에 오게 되었다고 했습니다.

“잘못 온 것 같아요.”

예배가 시작되기 전, 친구와 통화하며 그렇게 말했습니다. 하지만 찬양이 시작되고 짧은 말씀과 기도가 이어졌고, 기도 시간이 되었을 때 그 청소년은 고개를 숙였습니다.

“처음으로… 하나님이 진짜 계신 것 같다고 느꼈어요.”

그날 밤, 그 청소년은 예수님을 영접했습니다. 그리고 곧바로 다시 전화를 걸어, 조금 전까지 통화하던 친구를 불러왔습니다. 그 친구의 마음도 예배 가운데 열렸고, 같은 자리에서 예수님을 영접했습니다.

이 장면을 통해 우리는 다시 한 번 깨달았습니다. 한 사람의 변화가 우리가 맽는 관계를 통해서 확장된다는 것을. 그리고 이 모든 시작은 누군가가 다시 찾아가 주었기 때문이었습니다.

이 모든 사역 가운데 모든 영광을 우리를 보내주신 주님께 올려드립니다.

다음 걸음을 향해

AYC의 여정은 여기서 멈추지 않습니다. 다가오는 해에는 내륙 지역과 옐로나이프, 그리고 매니토바까지 사역의 지경을 넓혀, 아직 주님을 알지 못하는 많은 원주민 청소년들이 있는 곳, 그리고 하나님의 마음이 이끄시는 곳을 향해 계속해서 나아가려 합니다.

2025년 한 해 동안 원주민 청소년들을 향한 하나님의 비전에 관심과 기도, 동역과 후원으로 함께해 주신 모든 분들께 진심으로 감사드립니다. 내년에도 이 여정을 함께 걸으며, 주님께서 어떻게 일하고 계시는지를 함께 경험하게 되기를 기대합니다.

AYC는 앞으로도 같은 마음과 같은 자세로 걸어가며, 다음 세대가 복음을 듣고 예배를 경험하며, 다시 공동체로 돌아올 수 있도록 계속해서 섬기겠습니다.
