'God’s Grace Poured Out Once Again Upon 24 Summer AYC Conference'
In July, AYC (Aboriginal Youth Community) hosted one of their main events, 24 Summer AYC Conference. Around 80 volunteers and 170 indigenous youths joined the camp at Nanoose Bay Pentecostal Camp to once again experience the love of God and receive freedom. Indigenous youths from all over Canada experienced unity within Jesus for 4 days while being away from drugs and alcohol.
During the conference, Christine Nelson, one of the indigenous leaders, performed a skit she planned and practiced for two months as a dance team leader with other volunteers. The skit was about overcoming common issues among the youths such as lust, alcohol, self-harm and others through Jesus alone. During the skit, the strong presence of God overruled the place and moved the hearts of many youths. The youths shared their pains and weaknesses to one another as the skit opened up the spiritual doorway for the youths to enter deeper into worship. Many youths struggling with the same issues were able to face them and challenge themselves, and the volunteers were able to proclaim that Jesus was the only way, the truth, and the life to the youths.
Despite many difficulties, Christine continued to prepare for the skit in hopes that other youths would encounter the love of Jesus. Although Korean missionaries and volunteers are a valu eable tool for God, the ultimate goal of AYC is to raise up leaders among the indigenous youths. This step that Christine had taken holds more significance than just another skit. Although Christine herself was struggling with the same sins in the past, she has overcome them in Jesus and had become a leader and a missionary that proclaims to the youths that they must fix their eyes upon Jesus.
On the third day, the baptism ceremony took place for those that accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. The 12 youths that received baptism shared their testimonies and pains in the past prior to getting baptised, and confessed in tears that they wish to be renewed through Jesus Christ. They proclaimed in front of many witnesses that they would follow Jesus, and those that were at the site promised that they would continue to grow in faith with them as members of the same community of faith. One of the youths testified that their depression and suicidal thoughts had gone away through the love of God they felt at AYC.
For 4 months since May, Seongyoon Chang, one of the volunteers from AYC, has been going to Port Hardy every week to form a youth group for the AYC youths in the area. Upon AYC, Seongyoon’s youth group has undergone significant growth. Many youths that got baptised this AYC had begun to attend all 4 of the worship sessions during the week. Even the youths that normally do not join the gathering had begun to come and added to the liveliness of the youth group. During one of the days, the youths went out for street evangelism and prayed for them in tears, danced, and spread the gospel to them. They learned the way of Jesus as they embraced one another even in times of trouble. They spent the week building each other up in faith, proclaiming their faith on social media and depending on Jesus instead of the world.
The Vision Trip to Korea from July 27 to August 7 was an unforgettable journey for eight Indigenous youth from four different Indigenous communities across Canada. The youth from Ahousaht and Quatsino on Vancouver Island, Cote in Saskatchewan, and Behchoko in Yellowknife traveled far with the AYC team, hoping to overcome their limits and grow spiritually. In Korea, they witnessed the miracles God performed through this nation. They learned about the impact of Christianity and the sacrifices made by missionaries during the Korea-Japan War and the Korean War, participated in the homeless ministry of Yeongdeungpo Wilderness Church, and experienced the meaning of family through homestays in Christian homes. With the help of Singil Church, the youth not only had a place to stay during their trip but also experienced the grace of God through early morning services at large churches, multiple Sunday services, weekday services, and the National Youth Holy Spirit Conference hosted by Singil Church. This fifth Vision Trip offered Indigenous youth a new perspective on how Korean society developed from its humble beginnings to the advanced society it is today. It was also a time for them to reflect on the changes they need to bring to their lives when they return and to envision their future.

Shingil Church
Shingil Church in Yeongdeungpo District, South Korea, were so generous to accommodate the AYC team this year. They not only provided us a place to stay, but also planned many schedules, events and allowed us to attend their regular worship services and conference throughout the 10 days of the vision trip. The youth experienced busy Sundays, attending a total of 4 worship services provided by the church. 5AM service, youth service, main service and english service. Attending a bigger church and participating in Holy Spirit filled worship, sermon and prayer sessions with many others opened the hearts of the youth and filled them with excitement and fire for God. The youth attended the 5AM services everyday of the trip and noted that it was a good start to their days and that they enjoyed them. The National Young Adult Holy Spirit Conference hosted by Shingil Church allowed the youth to see and experience worshipping, singing, dancing and praying with many other South Korean youth. Seeing others their age with such a love and fire for God, touched the hearts of the aboriginal youth and motivated them to also seek a personal relationship with God so that they can also worship with such fire and freedom. Many of the youth confessed that during the conference, they learned to pray without being scared of what others will say or think, to pray in freedom in front of God. They expressed that they wanted to bring the same atmosphere to our own Aboriginal Youth Community camps and for their friends to experience the same freedom they felt. It was an experience they plan to take with them as they go back home to Canada and one they will never forget.
Missionary Memorial -
The yanghwa missionary memorial hall was an inspirational and touching experience for the youth. Learning about the history of South Korea and the roles and works of the missionaries during those times allowed the youth to see how they contributed to the development of Korea’s
society as a whole. Many played key roles as war casualty aids, fighting for Koreas independence during the Japanese colonial period and Korean war, building hospitals and schools, introducing an education system to girls and helping the poor and marginalized communities during colonization and war. Learning about christians playing important roles in Koreas past and society gave the youth a vision of the great things they could also do and contribute to through following the path God has planned for them.
Seodaemun Prison History Hall
The youth had the chance to visit the Seodaemun prison history hall and to learn about the role of the prisons set up for Koreans by the Japanese during the Japanese colonial period. This experience was very eye opening to the youth as they were able to visualize the physical and emotional abuse that Koreans had to go through during the Japanese colonization. They learned about the purpose of the prisons, the missionaries who died fighting for Korea’s independence, the role of comfort women and the objectives of the torture rooms within the prisons. The visit to the torture rooms were the most impactful to the youth and left them speechless to the things Koreans had to endure during this painful period. After seeing the prison and driving back to shingil church to where they were staying, the youth could see the development of Korea’s society and architecture along the streets of Seoul. How Korea was able to overcome the pains of colonization and develop as a society thanks to patriotism and missionaries fighting for freedom, showed the youth that their nation could also overcome the pains and traumas of residential schools and advance as a nation through fighting through their hardships and striving for change.

The relationship between the North and South of Korea is still impacted today as the 38o parallel line still exists. The Korean War left many families and people devastated and in poverty, in grief and trauma as they lost their loved ones and separated from their families by North Korean forces. South Korea was able to rise up from rock bottom thanks to faith in God and labour and sacrificial work of parents in order to provide an education for their children. Without such hard work from the older generation for the younger generation, South Korea would not be the advanced, technological society it is today. By visiting the war memorial museum and the demilitarized zone, the youth learned about Koreas painful history and the importance of education and how through faith in God, they are able to overcome hardships of their past generations and become the new generation to rise up and advance their nation and society.
Yeoungdeungpo Wilderness Church
During the visit to Yeoungdeungpo Gwangya Church, the youth were able to see the living conditions of the elders experiencing homelessness in South Korea, serve them meals and hear their personal hardships and struggles. On the way to the church, they passed alleyways filled with many elders on the road, despite 30o heat, experiencing homelessness. The church they arrived at is placed beside an alleyway where they found many sitting in tents and eating meals provided by the church. There the youth would learn about the history of the building and area, that in previous years many of the tiny rooms within the building were used for prostitution and evil works. The Pastor Lim Myeong Hee had a calling and vision from God to turn the area and building into a church and residence for homeless people. Pastor Lim and his chruch members would march along the alley everyday singing worship songs and spreading the gospel. Today the vision is fulfilled and the area no longer is used for prostitution. Many homeless elders today live within the rooms inside the building, where they are served 3 meals a day, provided with water, fans and clothes by the church, and where they can attend worship service everyday whilst only paying $250 CAD monthly. Praise God. Many youth came back with heavy hearts but also with gratefulness that they have a family to eat with, a bed to sleep in and home to live in. Overall this experience gave the youth the heart of sympathy and love, allowing them to experience gratefulness for the things they have in life and what God has provided them with but also the wondrous mighty power of God and the great plans and visions he has for us.
Homestay
For 2 nights and 3 days, the youth were given the opportunity to go to a Korean homestay and experience what it is like to be apart of a Korean christian family. With their families they would eat dinner, go shopping, watch movies and do daily devotionals. Despite meeting for the first time, many youth were welcomed with love into their families. Through this experience, they expressed that they were able to feel the love of God as they were showered with unmerited love and favour from their host families. Being able to call their host parents “mom” and “dad” and their host siblings “sister” and “brother” was an experience they said will never forget and many felt emotional having to depart with their families at the end. This experience touched the heart of the youth and many came back feeling refreshed and filled with love, hopeful to create such an atmosphere within their own families and communities.
Fun activities
The many activities and schedules awaiting the youth were endless! Through the help of Shingil Church, the youth were able to go to Korea’s most famous amusement park, Everland, where they enjoyed many rides, panda viewings, circus shows and safari museums, Cheongwadae (Blue House) to see where the presidential residence formerly resided, Famous attractions like the Hangang river and Seoul Sky to see the gorgeous night view of the capital of South Korea and the city lights, and the shopping street of Seoul. The youth were able to enjoy a country that was once broken, but now is where it is now thanks to hard work and the faith in God of the older generations.
From August 5th to the 7th, 44 people from Toronto Light Presbyterian Church made their way to Port Hardy to host VBS and evening worship. Many children, youths, and adults participated and joined in on the opportunity to feel the love of Jesus. On the last day, some of the indigenous youths that encountered Jesus went up to the stage and testified of how they met God and confessed the pains of their past and showed their desire to know Jesus more. AYC is actively looking for a missionary that can serve these children that are growing in faith with love.
Among the youths that participated in this gathering for the past 3 months, AYC is gathering 7 of them to take them on the Vancouver Vision Trip. These youths that had rarely gone outside of the Port Hardy area will be serving at Potter’s Place Mission located on East Hasting and spread the gospel to the homeless people to return the love and grace they had received. We ask for your prayers for the youths to realize the love of God and engrave the joy of spreading the gospel of Jesus through this ministry.
From August 29th to the 31st, Mini AYC Conference is taking place in Port Hardy as the Port Hardy youth group ministry comes to an end. This conference is hosted for the youths to receive the fire of the Holy Spirit once again in this season of spiritual growth and for them to build the sense of community within the youths of faith in their area. We are looking for volunteers to serve at this event, hoping that the youths will experience the love of God with one another and learn to worship together as they find unity in Jesus. '2024 여름 AYC 컨퍼런스에 또 다시 부어진 하나님의 은혜'
7월에 접어들고 AYC는 메인 이벤트 중 하나인 여름 캠프를 개최했다. 80여명의 봉사자들과 170명 가량의 원주민 청소년 아이들은 Nanoose Bay Pentecostal Camp 에 다시 한번 모여 하나님의 사랑을 경험하고 자유함을 얻는 시간을 보냈다. 캐나다 전 지역에서 모인 각자 다른 배경을 가진 원주민 아이들은 술과 마약에서 떨어진 캠프장에서 4일간 오직 예수님 안에서 하나가 되는 경험을 하게 되었다.
컨퍼런스 중, 원주민 리더 Christine Nelson은 두 달 동안 다른 봉사자들을 이끌고 계획한 연극을 선보였다. 이 전에는 AYC 원주민 선교 대상자였던 Christine어 AYC 컨퍼런스와 Vision trip to Korea를 통해 이번에 어였이 복음을 전하는 리더로 참가 하게 된것은 하나님이 AYC 를 통해 일하신 예표이다. 크리스틴이 연출한 연극은 원주민 청소년 아이들이 흔히 겪는 이성, 술, 자해 문제 등을 예수님 안에서 회복한다는 메세지를 담고 있었다. 신실하신 하나님은 연극을 통해 참가자들에게 강한 임재를 부어 주셨고, 그로 인해 연극을 본 많은 원주민 청소년들은 봉사자들에게 마음을 열고 아픔을 나누기 시작했으며 예배에 깊이 들어가고자 하는 갈망을 보였다. 봉사자들은 이 기회를 놓치지 않고 오직 예수님만이 길이요 진리요 생명이라는 것을 선포하였다. 여러가지 공통적인 죄들을 다룬 연극을 통하여 그와 동일한 죄들로 힘들어하는 아이들이 스스로들의 상황을 직시하고 주안에서 도전하고자 하는 일을 보는 것은 선교의 큰 보람이다. .
Christine은 연습 중 많은 어려움 가운데에서도 오직 아이들이 예수님을 만났으면 하는 귀한 마음으로 연극을 마무리했다고 전했다. 그 누구보다도 Christine은 원주민 청소년들의 고뇌가 무엇인지 가장 잘 이해 하고 있었기 때문이다. 한국인 선교사들과 봉사자들이 서는 것도 매우 귀한 일이지만, 결국 AYC에서 바라보는 선교의 궁극적 목적은 원주민 아이들이 리더로 스스로 설 수 있도록로 세워주는 것이다. Christine이 떼어준 이 발걸음은 연극 이상의 큰 의미가 있다. 원주민 청소년으로서 다른 아이들과 동일한 죄와 싸우던 Christine은 어느 새 과거의 죄들을 예수님 안에서 이겨내고 이제는 리더로 세워져 아이들에게 예수님을 바라보아야 한다는 메세지를 던지는 한 명의 선교사가 되어 있었다. 더 많은 Christine이 나와 원주민 전역에 부흥의 물결이 일어나길 AYC는 기도한다.
셋째날에는 예수님을 삶의 구주로 인정하고 다른 삶을 살겠다고 고백하고자 하는 아이들을 위한 셰레식이 있었다. 세례를 받은 12명의 아이들은 각자 세례 전 간증을 통해 삶에 대한 아픔을 나누었고 예수님을 통하여 그들의 삶을 변화 시키고 싶다고 눈물을 흘리며 고백했다. 이번 세례를 받겠다고 선 아이들은 많은 증인들 앞에서 예수님을 따르겠다고 다짐하고 선포했으며, 많은 증인들은 그들과 신앙의 공동체로서 서로 도무며 함께 믿음을 키워 나가겠다고 약속했다. 이 청소년들중 한 명은 AYC를 통하여 우울증과 자살충 등이 사라지며 하나님의 사랑을 느꼈다고 고백하기도 했다.
5월부터 4개월간 Port Hardy 단기 선교를 하고 있는 장성윤 형제의 청소년 그룹은 계속적인 AYC 참가 이후 많은 성장을 거쳤다. 다수의 아이들이 이번 7월 AYC에서 세례를 받고 월요일 부터 목요일까지 열리는 예배에 매일 참석을 하기 시작했다. 평소에는 예배에 오지 않던 아이들도 참석률이 높아지면서 장성원 형제와 그의 팀은 AYC 여름 캠프 이후 아이들로 가득 찬 나날을 보내고 있다. 놀라운 일은 몇몇 AYC 참가자 아이들이 밖에 나가 다른 사람들을 위해 눈물로 기도해주기도 하고 워십 댄스를 하기도 하며 노방전도를 하고, 넘어지더라도 서로 보듬어 줌을 통해 예수님의 길을 따르는 법을 배워 나가고 있다는 것이다. 여름 AYC 캠프 이후 원주민 청소년들이 서로 믿음의 권면을 하고 SNS등에 말씀을 선포하는 등, 힘든 시간 가운데 세상을 의지하지 않고 예수님을 따라가려 노력하려는 모습을 보면서, AYC 팀들은 다시한번 주님게 감사드리지 않을 수 없다.
7월 27일부터 8월 7일까지 한국으로 떠난 비전트립은 캐나다 전역의 4개의 다른 원주민 마을에서 온 8명의 원주민 청소년에게 잊을 수 없는 여행이었다. 밴쿠버 아일랜드의Ahousaht과 Quatsino, 사스카추언의 Cote, 옐로나이프 원주민 마을인 Behchoko에서 온 8명의 원주민은 AYC 팀과 함께 먼 한국으로 떠나 한계를 극복하며 영적으로 한 단계 더 발전되기를 소망했다. 이들은 한국에서 하나님께서 이 나라를 통해 보여주신 기적을 보게 되었다. 한국 일본 전쟁, 그리고 남북 전쟁 중에서 해외에서 오신 선교사들과 그들이 희생과 기독교가 미친 영향, 영등포 광야 교회의 노숙자 사역, 그리고 한국에서 기독교 가정에서 홈스테이로 경험을 통해서 가족의 의미를 배우게 되었다. 신길교회의 도움으로 청소년들은 여행 중 머물 수 있는 장소뿐만 아니라, 대형 교회의 새벽 예배, 여러 주일 예배, 주중 정기 예배, 그리고 신길교회가 주최한 전국 청년 성령 대회에 참석하여 뜨거운 은혜를 경험을 할 수 있었다. 이번 5번째 진행된 비전트립은 원주민 청소년들에게 한국 사회가 밑바닥에서 현재의 선진화된 사회로 발전한 과정을 새롭게 바라볼 수 있는 시각을 제공했으며 더 나아가 다시 돌아가서의 삶속에 어떤 변화를 가지고 와야할지에 대해서 생각하며 비전을 갖게되는 시간이 되었다.

신길교회
한국 서울 영등포구에 위치한 신길교회는 올해 AYC 팀을 매우 관대하게 환대해 주었습니다. 신길교회는 우리에게 머물 장소를 제공해 줄 뿐만 아니라, 다양한 일정과 이벤트를 계획해 주었고, 비전 트립 10일 동안 교회의 정기 예배와 대회에 참석할 수 있는 기회를 주었습니다. 청소년들은 주일에 총 4번의 예배(새벽 5시 예배, 청소년 예배, 주일 대예배, 영어 예배)에 참석하였으며, 대형 교회에서 많은 사람들과 함께 성령 충만한 예배와 설교, 기도 시간을 경험하며 하나님의 사랑과 열정을 다시금 느꼈습니다. 청소년들은 매일 새벽 5시 예배에 참석했고, 이 예배가 그들의 하루를 시작하는 데 매우 좋았고 즐거웠다고 전했습니다. 신길교회에서 주최한 전국 청년 성령 대회에서는 많은 한국 청년들과 함께 예배하고, 찬양하고, 춤추고, 기도하는 모습을 보며 원주민 청소년들의 마음이 감동받고 하나님을 향한 열정이 불타올랐습니다. 많은 청소년들은 이번 대회를 통해 남들의 시선을 두려워하지 않고 하나님 앞에서 자유롭게 기도하는 법을 배웠다고 고백했습니다. 그들은 이번 경험을 통해 원주민 청소년 캠프에서도 이러한 분위기를 조성하고 싶다고 표현하며, 자신들의 친구들도 그들이 느낀 자유를 경험할 수 있기를 바란다고 말했습니다. 이 경험은 캐나다로 돌아간 후에도 절대 잊지 못할 것입니다.
양화진외국인선교사묘원
양화진 외국인 선교사 묘원 방문은 청소년들에게 영감을 주고 감동적인 경험이었습니다. 한국의 역사와 선교사들이 한국 사회에 기여한 역할을 배우며, 이들이 한국의 발전에 어떻게 기여했는지를 알게 되었습니다. 많은 선교사들은 전쟁 중 부상자 구호, 일제강점기와 한국전쟁에서의 독립운동, 병원과 학교 설립, 여성 교육 시스템 도입, 그리고 식민지 시대와 전쟁 중 빈민층과 소외된 계층을 도왔습니다. 한국 사회에서 기독교인이 중요한 역할을 했다는 것을 배우며, 청소년들은 자신들도 하나님이 계획하신 길을 따름으로써 위대한 일들을 이룰 수 있다는 비전을 품게 되었습니다.
서대문형무소 역사관
청소년들은 서대문형무소 역사관을 방문해 일제강점기 당시 일본이 한국인을 위해 설치한 감옥의 역할을 배울 기회를 가졌습니다. 이 경험은 청소년들에게 큰 충격을 주었으며, 한국인들이 일본의 식민지 지배하에서 겪어야 했던 신체적, 감정적 고통을 시각화할 수 있었습니다. 그들은 감옥의 목적, 한국의 독립을 위해 싸우다 순교한 선교사들, 위안부의 역할, 그리고 감옥 내 고문실의 목적에 대해 배웠습니다. 특히 고문실을 방문한 경험은 청소년들에게 깊은 인상을 남겼고, 한국인들이 이 고통스러운 시기를 견뎌내야 했던 현실에 말을 잇지 못했습니다. 감옥을 보고 신길교회로 돌아오는 길에 청소년들은 서울의 거리에서 한국 사회와 건축물의 발전을 볼 수 있었습니다. 한국이 식민지의 고통을 극복하고 애국심과 자유를 위해 싸운 선교사들의 도움으로 발전할 수 있었던 것처럼, 원주민 청소년들은 그들 또한 과거의 상처를 이겨내고 사회를 발전시킬 수 있다는 희망을 얻었습니다.
전쟁기념관과 비무장지대
한반도의 남북 관계는 여전히 38선이 존재하며 오늘날까지 영향을 미치고 있습니다. 한국 전쟁은 많은 가족과 사람들에게 슬픔과 트라우마를 남겼으며, 사랑하는 사람을 잃고 북한군에 의해 가족과 헤어지게 되었습니다. 한국은 하나님에 대한 믿음과 자녀들을 위한 교육을 위해 희생한 부모들의 노력 덕분에 바닥에서부터 일어설 수 있었습니다. 이번 전쟁기념관과 비무장지대 방문을 통해 청소년들은 한국의 아픈 역사와 교육의 중요성, 그리고 하나님에 대한 믿음을 통해 과거의 고난을 극복하고 국가와 사회를 발전시킬 수 있다는 것을 배웠습니다.
영등포 광야교회
영등포 광야교회를 방문하는 동안, 청소년들은 한국에서 노숙 생활을 하고 있는 노인들의 생활 조건을 직접 보고, 그들에게 식사를 제공하고, 그들의 개인적인 어려움과 고충을 들을 수 있었습니다. 교회로 가는 길에 30도가 넘는 더위 속에서도 거리에서 생활하는 많은 노인들을 보며, 그들의 어려움을 체감할 수 있었습니다. 도착한 교회는 골목길 옆에 위치해 있었으며, 그곳에는 많은 사람들이 텐트에 앉아 교회에서 제공하는 식사를 먹고 있었습니다. 청소년들은 이 건물과 지역의 역사를 배우게 되었는데, 과거에는 이 건물 안의 작은 방들이 매춘과 악한 일들에 사용되었다는 것을 알게 되었습니다. 임명희 목사님은 이 지역과 건물을 교회와 노숙자들의 거주지로 변모시키라는 하나님의 부름과 비전을 받았습니다. 목사님과 교회 성도들은 매일 골목을 다니며 찬양을 부르고 복음을 전했습니다. 오늘날, 그 비전은 이루어졌고, 이 지역은 더 이상 매춘에 사용되지 않습니다. 현재 많은 노숙자 노인들이 이 건물 안에서 생활하며, 교회에서 매일 제공하는 세 끼 식사와 물, 선풍기, 옷을 받으며 매일 예배에 참석할 수 있게 되었습니다. 많은 청소년들은 무거운 마음으로 돌아왔지만, 동시에 가족과 함께 식사를 하고 잠자리에 들며 집에서 생활할 수 있다는 것에 대해 감사함을 느꼈습니다. 이번 경험을 통해 청소년들은 삶에서 하나님이 제공하신 것에 대한 감사함과 더불어, 하나님의 놀라운 능력과 그분이 우리에게 가지고 계신 위대한 계획과 비전을 느낄 수 있었습니다.

2박 3일 동안, 청소년들은 한국의 기독교 가정에서 홈스테이를 할 수 있는 기회를 가졌습니다. 그들은 가족들과 함께 저녁 식사를 하고, 쇼핑을 하고, 영화를 보고, 매일 큐티 시간을 가졌습니다. 처음 만난 가족들이었음에도 불구하고, 많은 청소년들은 사랑으로 환영받았습니다. 이번 경험을 통해 청소년들은 하나님께서 주시는 사랑을 느낄 수 있었고, 호스트 부모님들을 “엄마”, “아빠”라고 부르며 호스트 형제자매들을 “형”, “누나”라고 부를 수 있었던 것은 그들에게 잊을 수 없는 경험이 되었습니다. 많은 청소년들은 가족들과 헤어질 때 감정이 북받쳐 눈물을 흘렸습니다. 이번 경험은 청소년들의 마음을 감동시켰고, 많은 이들이 사랑과 희망으로 가득 찬 채 돌아왔으며, 자신들의 가족과 커뮤니티에서도 이러한 분위기를 만들고 싶다고 다짐했습니다.
즐거운 활동들
신길교회의 도움으로 청소년들은 한국의 가장 유명한 놀이공원인 에버랜드에 가서 다양한 놀이기구를 즐기고, 판다 관람, 서커스 쇼, 사파리 박물관 등을 체험했습니다. 또한, 청와대에 방문하여 이전 대통령의 관저를 구경하고, 한강과 서울의 야경을 볼 수 있는 서울스카이에 올라 서울의 아름다운 밤 풍경과 도시의 불빛을 감상했습니다. 그리고 서울의 유명한 쇼핑 거리에서도 시간을 보냈습니다. 이번 여행을 통해 청소년들은 한때 고통받았던 나라가 이제는 신앙과 선배 세대의 노력 덕분에 현재의 선진국이 될 수 있었음을 몸소 체험할 수 있었습니다.
8월 5일부터 7일까지는 토론토에 있는 큰빛 교회에서 중고등부 선교팀 44명이 Port Hardy에서 VBS와 저녁 예배를 개최했다. 많은 어린이들과 청소년들, 그리고 어른들이 참가해 함께 크래프트를 하고 뛰놀며 음식 나눔을 통해 예수님의 사랑을 나누는 시간을 가졌다. 마지막날 예배에는 토론토 큰빛 교회 청소년들과 원주민 청소년들이 서로 기도해 주는 시간을 가지게 되었으며 끝으로 원주민 청소년들이 하나님을 만난 간증과 자신의 아픔을 참가자 모두 앞에서 고백하며 예수님을 더 알아가고 싶다는 의지를 알리며 예배를 마쳤다. 8월 말, Mini AYC 를 끝으로 이 단기 사역은 끝나게 된다. 말씀을 먹고 자라는 중에 있는 이 아이들을 위해 사랑으로 섬겨줄 마음이 있는 선교사를 AYC에서는 꾸준히 기도하며 찾고 있다.
현재 AYC는 지난 4개월간 함께 하나님께 나아간 Port Hardy 아이들 중 7명을 모아 8월 14일부터 19일까지 Vancouver Vision Trip을 계획하는 중에 있다. 원주민 마을밖으로 나와 본 적이 드문 아이들은 East Hasting에 있는 Potter’s Place Mission에서 노숙자 사역을 하며 그 동안 받은 은혜와 사랑을 이들에게 돌려주는 경험을 하게 된다. 처음 시행하는 이 사역 가운데에서 오직 하나님의 사랑을 깨닫고 주님의 복음을 전하는 기쁨을 마음에 새길 수 있도록 기도를 부탁하는 바이다.
Port Hardy 사역의 마지막을 장식할 Mini AYC 역시 8월 29일부터 31일까지 계획하고 있다. 영적으로 성장하고 있는 이 시기에 다시 한번 성령의 바람을 불어넣을 컨퍼렌스를 열어 아이들이 이번에는 한 마을에 있는 다른 아이들과 함께 동고동락하는 경험을 심어주기 위해서다. 함께 은혜를 받아 같이 있을 때에 예배하는 법을 배우고 예수님 안에서 분열 없이 하나 되는 아이들이 되기를 바라며 AYC는 이 행사에 뜻을 같이 할 봉사자를 모집 중에 있다. 앞으로의 사역에 대해 더 알고 싶다면, AYC 공식 웹사이트 (aycmission.com)에서 확인할 수 있다.
