AYC Hosts a Special Gathering with Indigenous Youth in Yellowknife
From February 6 to 10, 10 volunteers from Vancouver visited the Behchoko First Nation near Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories (NWT) to hold a special gathering for Indigenous youth. Upon arriving in this small community, we were filled with gratitude as we had the opportunity to worship with around 70 youth and share the gospel with them. It was a meaningful time, and we are thankful to God for allowing us to spread His love.
Behchoko First Nation is home to about 2,000 Indigenous people, more than 400 of whom are youth. The youth in this area face challenges such as substance abuse, alcohol addiction, and gambling, which often lead to them being placed in foster care. Despite these struggles, this gathering allowed the youth to experience God’s love and find new hope in the midst of their difficult circumstances. It was truly a blessing to witness how God opened their hearts, showing them that He is present in their struggles and is offering them a new path.
Ministry Built on Dedication and Prayer in Behchoko
In Behchoko, Missionary Shin Hyun-sook, Pastor Peter, and Sister Nancy have been faithfully serving the Indigenous youth for years. Every Friday evening, they hold a youth worship service, and at times more than 50 youth attend. However, the increasing needs of these young people have been challenging with limited workers.
Through this AYC gathering, the local ministry team was reassured that their years of dedication and prayers have not been in vain. Missionary Shin shared, “God has heard our prayers, and through AYC, we are witnessing these youth grow deeper in their faith.” She also said, “All glory belongs to God,” and we were able to witness God’s work in their lives.
Beyond Behchoko: A Vision for More Indigenous Communities
This visit has prompted AYC to pray not only for revival in Behchoko First Nation but also for neighboring communities like Whati, Gameti, and Wekweeti. AYC plans to expand its outreach to more remote Indigenous youth in the coming years. The volunteers who participated in this mission trip have already committed to returning to Behchoko in February 2025, with the hope that this will be the starting point for a greater revival throughout the Northern Territories.
2025 AYC Spring Youth Gathering & Volunteer Recruitment
AYC is now preparing for the 2025 Spring Youth Gathering, scheduled for March 27-30. It is expected that 200-300 Indigenous youth will attend, and many volunteers are needed to help make this event a success. AYC is recruiting volunteers in various roles, including youth small group leaders, worship team members, and media support. Churches and individuals who are passionate about Indigenous youth ministry are encouraged to participate.

AYC, Yellowknife에서 원주민 청소년들과 특별한 집회를 가졌습니다.
2월 6일부터 10일까지, 밴쿠버에서 온 10명의 봉사자들이 노스웨스트 준주(NWT) Yellowknife 인근 Behchoko First Nation을 방문해 원주민 청소년들을 위한 특별한 집회를 열게 되었습니다. 처음 그곳에 도착했을 때, 이 작은 마을에서 70명의 청소년들과 함께 예배를 드릴 수 있다는 사실에 마음이 뜨거워졌습니다. 그들과 함께 복음을 나누고, 하나님의 사랑을 전할 수 있는 기회를 주셔서 감사했습니다.
Behchoko First Nation은 약 2,000명의 원주민들이 살고 있는 곳으로, 그 중 400명 이상이 청소년들입니다. 하지만 이 지역의 청소년들은 마약과 술, 도박 중독 등으로 많은 어려움을 겪고 있으며, 그로 인해 위탁 가정에 들어가는 경우가 많습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 이번 집회를 통해 그들이 하나님의 사랑을 온전히 경험하고 새로운 희망을 품을 수 있는 기회를 얻었다는 사실이 너무 감사하고 감동적이었습니다. 어려운 상황 속에서도 하나님께서 그들의 마음을 여시고, 그들이 더 나은 삶을 살 수 있도록 하신다는 것을 느꼈습니다.
헌신과 기도로 세워진 Behchoko 사역
현재 Behchoko 지역에서는 신현숙 선교사님과 피터 목사님, 그리고 낸시 자매님이 마을에서 원주민 청소년들을 위해 오랜 시간 동안 헌신하며 사역하고 계십니다. 매주 금요일마다 청소년 예배가 열리며, 때로는 50명이 넘는 청소년들이 참석합니다. 하지만 사역자가 부족하여 많은 어려움이 있었습니다.
그럼에도 불구하고, AYC의 집회를 통해 현지 사역팀은 그동안의 기도와 헌신이 헛되지 않았음을 확신할 수 있었습니다. 신 선교사님은 “하나님께서 우리의 기도를 들으시고, AYC를 통해 청소년들이 더 깊은 신앙의 자리로 나아가는 것을 보고 있다”며, “모든 영광을 하나님께 돌린다”고 전해주셨습니다. 정말로, 하나님께서 그들의 사역을 통해 일하고 계시다는 것을 체험할 수 있었습니다.
Behchoko를 넘어, 더 많은 원주민 마을로
이번 방문을 통해 AYC는 Behchoko First Nation뿐만 아니라 Whati, Gameti, Wekweeti와 같은 인근 마을에도 하나님의 부흥이 임하기를 간절히 기도하게 되었습니다. 이들 마을에서도 하나님께서 큰 일을 이루시기를 기도하며, 앞으로 더 많은 내륙 지역의 원주민 청소년들에게 다가갈 계획을 세우고 있습니다. 이번 방문을 마친 봉사자들은, 2025년 2월에 다시 Behchoko를 방문할 계획을 확정하며, 하나님의 부흥이 Northern Territory 전역에 임하기를 소망한다고 전했습니다.
2025 AYC 봄 청소년 집회 및 봉사자 모집
AYC는 이제 2025년 봄 청소년 집회를 준비하고 있습니다. 3월 27일부터 30일까지 열릴 이번 집회에는 약 200~300명의 원주민 청소년들이 참석할 것으로 예상되며, 이를 위해 많은 봉사자들의 도움이 필요합니다. 특히, 청소년 소그룹 인솔 리더, 찬양 팀, 미디어 지원 등 다양한 역할에서 자원봉사자를 모집하고 있으며, 원주민 청소년 사역에 관심이 있는 교회와 개인의 적극적인 참여를 부탁드립니다.
