[Experiencing God’s Grace that Expands the Mission Territories of AYC in September]

After 10 years of starting the indigenous youth ministry, AYC is spending the year of 2024 in grace, reaffirming the faithfulness of the Lord once again. In 2013, AYC has started off as an organization that hosts two indigenous youth retreats a year with a small number of volunteers. It began to expand, through the guidance of the Lord, hosting many Mini AYCs and monthly village visits, and last September, the door of grace has opened for multiple mission teams to systematically serve different areas at the same time.

[Port Alberni Mini AYC]

One of the AYC teams has hosted a Mini AYC in Port Alberni located on Vancouver Island from September 27th to the 28th. Many youths residing in Port Alberni are adopted children that have been taken away from their parents under the protection of the government due to unstable family situations and placed in the area. Getting used to a completely new environment is not an easy process for these youths. To spread the good news of the gospel to these youths, in preparing for this conference, AYC team has worked together with missionary Jacob Hwang (Hwang Sang Pil), who is currently serving Ahousaht and Port Alberni.

During the preparation, the Lord has shown us mercy by providing the team with the place of worship. Although it is a difficult task to find a place to worship as AYC conferences have become bigger and more frequent, every time they were in need, the Lord has shown his faithfulness. During this mission conference, God has graciously prepared a place for them to stay and to worship and a place where the youths can worship every bi-weekly. Just as in the book of Acts where God added the people being saved day by day when the disciples of Jesus continued to meet in the temple courts, we believe that the Holy Spirit will faithfully carry out his will as the youths of AYC that have experienced Jesus gather with a joyful heart in Port Alberni.

Although the expected number of youths were only 8, 21 youths participated in worship and the programs. Since the 8 expected participants are those that have already experienced the touch of the Lord through AYC conferences and through the service of the missionary, their spiritual growth is expected to bloom all the more. Although 6 of the participants of the event were first timers, they received Jesus in tears and prayers. It is a rewarding experience to see the growth of the youths that have met Jesus already as well as witnessing the increasing number of people newly being saved through the works of the Holy Spirit.

[Port Hardy Village Visit]

While the Port Alberni Mini AYC was in progress, another team from AYC headed to the north of Vancouver Island. The past September 26th to the 28th, the AYC team has visited the two indigenous villages (Quatsino, Gwa'sala-'Nakwaxda'xw) in Port Hardy located on the north end of Vancouver Island. With the grace of God, a Christian owner of a hostel in Port Hardy willingly opened up the lounge on the second floor of the hostel for them to gather and worship with the youths. The 20 youths that participated in the previous 4-month mission work done by Seongyoon Chang and AYC worshipped with the heart longing to praise God. They testified that they felt the freedom in Christ as they worshipped. Noteworthily, bibles were gifted to those that decided to follow Jesus and they spent time reading the bible and knowing about the Lord even deeper.

During the time of worship, the hearts of the youths have opened, and they confessed how difficult it is for them to live according to the word of Jesus. As the team shared and encouraged that the only way to fight the battle of faith in this world full of temptations of alcohol and drugs is to gather together to worship and pray, the youths decided that they would regularly gather and worship. They have firmly decided to regularly participate in the Thursday Port Hardy youth gatherings hosted by pastor Chris (Kim Gyeong Nam) of Fort Rupert Church. We pray that they would receive the faith of victory as they rise as true Christians according to the guidance of the Holy Spirit as they all gather together to give their worship to the Lord.

AYC team has spent a fruitful month of September in the guidance of the Lord, witnessing the testimonies being poured out from the youths. They reaffirmed that they would be wherever the heart of the Lord is. AYC is planning to continue to visit wherever the Lord sends them to be. AYC 선교의 지경을 넓히시는 하나님의 은혜를 경험하는 9월을 보내다 

원주민 청소년  사역이 시작된지  어느덧 11여년이라는 시간이 지나면서   AYC는 다시 한번 주님의 신실함을 경험케 하는 은혜의 2024년을  보내고 있다.   2013년부터 일년에  두번 원주민 청소년 수련회를 소수의 봉사자들과 진행해 오던 선교 단체가 주님의 인도하심으로 봄과 여름에 열리는 Main AYC 수련회에 이어 Mini AYC 와  매달 원주민 마을 방문을 해마다 더하며  선교의 지경을 넓혀 오던중 올해 9월 부터는 선교팀이 확장되어  좀더 조직적으로 여러팀이 동시에 다른 지역을 섬길 수 있는 은혜의 문이 열리게 되었다. 

[Port Alberni Mini AYC]

AYC의 한팀은 지난 9월 27일부터 28일까지 밴쿠버 아일랜드의 포트 알버니 지역에서 ‘미니 AYC 집회’를 열었다. 포트 알버니에 거주하는 다수의 청소년들은 입양된 아이들로, 대부분 불안정한 가정 환경에서 자라다 정부의 보호 하에 가족과 분리되어 이 지역으로 이주한 경우가 많다. 이들에게 새로운 환경에 적응하는 과정은 결코 쉬운 일이 아니다.  많은 상처를 않고 있는 청소년들이 마약과 술에 쉽게 노출되고, 그로 인해 이들은 많은 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이러한 청소년들에게 복음의 소식을 전하고자, AYC 팀은 어하우젯 원주민 마을과 포트 알버니를 섬기고 있는 황상필 선교사와 함께 이번 집회를 준비했다. 

집회를 준비하는 과정에서 주님께서는 먼저 예배 장소 문제를 해결해 주셨다. AYC 집회의 크기와 횟수가 점점  확장 되다 보니 그에 맞는 장소를 마련하는 것 또한 쉽지 않은 일이었지만, 그럴때마다  주님은 항상 그분의 신실하심을 보여 주셨다. 특히 이번 선교 집회에는  더욱 더 감사하게 숙소와  예배당이 미리 마련되는 은혜를 허락하셨고 나아가서는 앞으로 2주마다 안정적으로 예배를  드릴 수 있도록 새로운 길을 열어 주셨다. 사도행전에서 주님의 제자들이 서로 마음을 같이 하여 성전에 모이길 힘쓸때 주님께서  구원 받는 사람을 날마다 더하신 것처럼, 포트 알버니에서도 AYC 집회에서 주님을 경험한 청소년들이 즐겨 모이길 힘쓸때, 성령님께서는 그분의 일을 신실하게 해 나가실 것을 믿어 의심치 않는다. 

또한 예상했던 8명의 청소년 참가자들보다 많은 21명의 청소년들이 예배와 프로그램에 참석하였다. 예상했던 8명의 참가자들은 그동안 꾸준히  AYC 집회와  선교사님의 섬기심을 통해  주님의 만지심을 경험한 친구들이라 그들의 영적 성장이 기대되는 바이다. 참가자중 6명은 처음으로 AYC 집회에 참여 하였으며 특히 이들 6명의 청소년들은 예배 도중 눈물로 기도하며 예수님을 영접하는 감동적인 순간을 맞이 했다. 이미 그리스도 안에서 예수님을 만난 청소년들이 영적으로 성숙해지는 것을 보는 것도 보람된 일이고  앞에서 말한것과 같이 성령님의 일하심을 통해 구원 받을 사람들이 많아지는 것을 보는 것 또한  선교의 감동중에 감동임을 나주지 않을 수 없다. 

[Port Hardy Village Visit]

Port Alberni에서  Mini AYC 가 열리는 동안, 또 다른 AYC 팀은  밴쿠버 섬의 북쪽으로 선교의 발걸음을 향했다.  지난 9월 26-28일 AYC 선교 팀원들은 밴쿠버 아일랜드 북부지방에 위치한 Port Hardy 지역 소속 두개의 원주민 마을(Quatsino, Gwa'sala-'Nakwaxda'xw)에서 살고 있는 청소년들을 방문했다. 감사하게도 포트하디 지역 호스텔을 운영하고 있는 기독교인 주인의 도움으로 호스텔 2층 라운지에서 청소년들과 교제하고 예배를 드릴 수 있었다. 그동안 AYC와 장성윤 형제의 여름 단기 선교로 복음을 받은 20여명의 아이들이 예배를 사모하는 마음으로 모여 찬양과 경배 드릴때,  그리스도 안에서 느끼는 자유함이 있었다고 아이들은 간증하였다. 특별히, 믿음이 자라 예수님을 따르고자 하는 친구들에게 성경책을 선물하고 함께 말씀을 읽으며 주님을 더욱 깊이 알아가는 귀한 시간을 가졌다.

함께 드리는 예배를 통해 청소년들의 마음이 더 많이 열렸고,  그로 인해 청소년들은 예수님의 말씀을 따라 사는 것이 얼마나 어려운지 고백하는 시간을 가졌다. 술과 마약의 유혹이 넘쳐나는 세상에 살면서, 믿음의 싸움을 이길수 있는 유일한 방법은 함께 모여 예배하고 기도 하는 것 밖에 없다는 것을 나누고 격려하자, 청소년들이 모이기에 힘쓰고 예배를 드리겠다고 결단했다. 포트 루퍼트 교회의 김경남 목사님의 도움으로 생긴 목요일 포트하디 원주민 청소년 예배에 청소년들이  정기적으로 참석하고 말씀을 듣고 따르겠다고 결단했다. 포트하디 원주민 청소년들이 마음을 다해 함께 모여 주님께 예배를 올려 드릴때 성령님의 인도하심으로 그들이  참된 그리스도인으로  일어나 승리하는 믿음을 갖게 되기를 두손 모아 기도한다.

이렇듯 바쁜 9월을 보내면서 AYC팀은 주님의 인도하심 속에 많은 간증이 쏟아져 나오는 것을 보게되었고, 앞으로도 주님의 마음이 있는 곳에 AYC가  함께할 것을 다시한번 다짐하는 시간을 갖게 되었다. AYC 는  앞으로 주님이 보내시는 곳이라면 어디든지 방문할 예정이니, 원주민 청소년들에게 복음을  전하고 소망을 나누는 사역에 동참 하실 분들은  www.aycmission.com을 참고 하시거나 전화 (604) 356-0052   또는 이메일 aboriginalyouthcommunity@gmail.com으로 문의하실 수 있다.
