Sparking Revival Among Indigenous Youth: The Fruit of Mini AYC Gatherings in Saskatchewan and Port Hardy

Since 2013, Aboriginal Youth Community (AYC) has been dedicated to the restoration of Indigenous youth. This October, AYC hosted two Mini AYC gatherings in Saskatchewan and Port Hardy, aiming to ignite hope and transformation among Indigenous communities. These events sought to bring the love of Jesus to spiritually hungry youth, offering healing for wounded hearts and a new path forward. The ultimate goal was to help Indigenous youth experience restoration through faith in Jesus and grow into leaders within their communities.

Saskatchewan: A Revival in the Making

In Saskatchewan, 80 youth and 19 AYC volunteers gathered with a deep desire to rediscover the essence of faith. This event was organized in partnership with Pastor Jamie, an Indigenous leader who has collaborated with AYC since its inception. Pastor Jamie leads weekly worship services across 14 Indigenous communities in Saskatchewan, many of whose youth have consistently attended AYC gatherings, finding hope and experiencing life transformation through Jesus.

At the Saskatchewan gathering, returning youth expressed a serious commitment to worship and a growing hunger for God. Some made bold decisions to turn away from addictions like smoking. Among them was 12-year-old Youth, who experienced significant healing during the prayer time on the first day. Struggling with a difficult family situation, Youth encountered God’s peace and began to show remarkable changes, attending worship regularly afterward. Another participant, Dazie, reflected on her faith and resolved to lay down habits that hindered her relationship with God. AYC prays that these personal transformations will kindle the flames of revival among Indigenous communities in Saskatchewan.

Port Hardy: New Hope for a New Generation

Immediately following the Saskatchewan gathering, the AYC team made their way to Port Hardy to host another Mini AYC. This area has faced a spiritual leadership void since the passing of Indigenous pastor Robert Nelson in 2023. Recognizing the spiritual thirst of the youth in this region, AYC focused on encouraging them to hold on to hope in Christ, strive for a transformed life, and become flames of revival for their community.

In Port Hardy, 25 youth participated in the gathering, where two newcomers made the life-changing decision to accept Jesus. Invited by friends who had already encountered Christ, these two youth experienced the grace of worship and found joy and freedom in the presence of God through praise and the Word.

Since Pastor Nelson’s passing, AYC has been praying for a new spiritual leader and a consistent place of worship for the community. Recently, God answered these prayers through Missionary Kyungnam Kim, who began leading weekly worship services in Fort Rupert. This new spiritual leadership and dedicated worship space have become a beacon of hope for the youth in the area and a testimony of God’s faithfulness for the AYC team.

The Mini AYC gatherings in Saskatchewan and Port Hardy were powerful opportunities for Indigenous youth to encounter God and embark on a journey toward a renewed life. 원주민 청소년들 사이에서의 부흥의 불꽃: Saskatchewan과 Port Hardy에서 열린 Mini AYC의 열매

2013년부터 원주민 청소년들의 회복을 위해 사역 해 온 Aboriginal Youth Community(AYC)가 10월중 Saskatchewan과 Port Hardy 지역에서 두 차례 원주민들의 희망과 변화를 위한 Mini AYC 집회를 개최했다. AYC는 영적인 갈망이 큰 원주민 청소년들에게 예수님의 사랑을 전하고, 상처 입은 마음을 치유하며 새로운 길을 제시하고자 그동안 노력해 왔다. 이번 Mini AYC 또한 원주민 지역의 청소년들이 예수님 안에서 신앙을 통해 회복되고, 지역 사회의 리더로 성장해 나가도록 돕기 위해 진행되었다.

Saskatchewan에서는 80명의 청소년과 19명의 AYC 봉사자가 함께 신앙의 본질을 찾고자 하는 열망 가운데 집회를 열었다. 이 집회는 AYC 사역 시작부터 같이 동역해온 원주민 Jamie 목사와 함께 진행 되었다. Jamie 목사는 Saskatchewan 주에서 매주 14개의 원주민 마을 청소년들을 모아 예배를 드리고 있다. 그중 다수는 이미 AYC 집회에 지속적으로 참석하며 예수님 안에서 희망을 갖고 삶의 변화를 가져온 열매들이다. 이번 집회에도 많은 청소년들이 연속 참석하며 예배에 대한 진지함과 하나님에 대한 갈망을 표현했으며, 그중 일부는 집회후 흡연 등의 중독을 내려놓고자 하는 결단을 보이기도 했다. 12세 소녀 Alyssa는 이번 집회를 통해 큰 변화를 경험한 대표적인 사례다. 그녀는 어려운 가정 환경 속에서 힘든 시간을 보내던 중 집회 첫날 기도 시간에 하나님의 치유를 경험한 후, 평안을 되찾기 시작하였고, 그후 예배에 꾸준히 참석하면서 변화하는 모습을 보이기 시작했다. 또 다른 참가자인 Dazie 역시 자신의 신앙을 돌아보며, 하나님과의 관계를 방해하던 습관들을 내려 놓겠다는 결심을 하게 되었다. 이러한 청소년들의 변화들이 계속되어 Saskatchewan 원주민 부흥의 작은 불씨가 될 것을 AYC는 항상 기도한다.

Saskatchewan에서 집회가 끝나고 AYC 팀은 미쳐 숨돌릴 시간 없이 다가오는 주에 Port Hardy로 부지런히 발걸음을 옮겼다. Port Hardy에서도 청소년들에게 새로운 소망을 심어주는 Mini AYC를 개최하기 위해서였다. Port Hardy 지역은 2023년 원주민 목회자 Robert Nelson 의 소천 이후 영적 리더의 부재 상태여서 AYC팀은 영적으로 목말라 하는 원주민 청소년들을 격려하며 주님안에서 희망을 놓치 않고 계속해서 더 나은 삶의 변화에 힘쓸것과 또 나아가서는 그들이 부흥의 불꽃이 되는데 사역의 초점을 두어 왔다. Port Hardy 집회에서는 총 25명의 청소년들이 참석하였는데 이번 집회의 열매는 그동안 꾸준히 영적 성장을 보여온 청소년들에 더불어 처음 참석한 두 명의 청소년들이 예수님을 영접하는 감동적인 일이었다. 이들은 예수님을 먼저 만난 친구들의 초대로 왔지만 이번 집회를 통해 예배의 은혜를 스스로 체험하게 되었고, 찬양과 말씀 속에서 기쁨과 자유를 느끼는 변화를 보이기 시작했다. Nelson 목사의 소천후 AYC 팀은 꾸준한 기도를 통해 지역내 영적 리더와 예배 장소가 마련 되기를 구했왔고 최근 Fort Rupert의 김경남 선교사가 매주 예배 인도를 시작하며 청소년들에게 영적 길잡이를 제공하기 시작 하였다. 새로운 리더와 예배 공간은 이 지역 청소년들에게 큰 영적 의미가 되었고 AYC 팀들에게는 신실하신 하나님을 경험하는 은혜의 간증이 되었다.
